A New JS8Call @GROUP Directory
I love operating the popular weak signal mode, JS8Call. One feature of the JS8Call software is called groups. A group is simply a designator that multiple people voluntarily use, which allows their station to receive commands and messages directed at the group, rather than at an individual operator.
Anyone can create a group, or join a group, by adding that group designator either in the activity pane, or in the settings (under General>Station). There are no additional steps, you just add the group. Once added, you will receive and respond to transmissions directed to that group.
Of course, a group isn't really a group unless multiple operators are participating! I've seen operators create a group, then transmit to that group, in order to attract operators who see the group name on the air. This is a suitable way of doing things. And, since there is no official directory listing for JS8Call groups, this method is even more suitable than it might initially seem.
That said, in our day of information technology, there is no reason that you should limit yourself to organic growth. Emailing, calling, texting, and posting your JS8Call group online can help you encourage others to join. Convincing your club or organization to use a JS8Call group designation is another way.
For those who would like to list a group, or understand the groups that are out there, I've created another option. The new JS8Call Group Directory lets you see what groups are being used on the air. It is based on my own log files and observations, as well as on information that has been provided to me. It's not complete or authoritative, but it is the best JS8Call group directory that I'm aware of!
Check it out today. Let me know if you have additional information that might be helpful.
